Design Goals

  1. Home -- "This is NOT a blog"
  2. establish: 1. topic & 2. era --> Havana, Cuba, mid-century (1940's-50's)
  3. SEO & targeted phrases, e.g. "cuba photos", "havana night life"
  4. Audience(s) plus how to reach 'em (break this down)
    1. academic
    2. travellers
    3. mid-century nuts: LA Conservancy, hipsters, Arclight crowd.
      read: Lotta Living?, BoingBoing?

Ideas

  1. ...[the look] I wanted to express of the cool Rat Pack era sophistication of the 1950s. The cigar box image is great.
  2. a list of the table of contents would not be nearly as compelling as a vertical column of thumbnail images representing each chapter (with the chapter name next to it) that links to a page highlighting the chapter with cool images with captions).

Dumb Ideas (Buz's)

  1. have feedback form in a super footer on the pages. Yeah, trying to jen-up "community" but could be neat, especially if done on a dutch angled, vintage pre-Castro postcard.

  17. The brownish text is a bit hard to read under the heading "Explore the book." Can it be a bit lighter in color?
  18. ... [selects] chapter thumbnail images I'd like the chapter paragraph text to be bigger, more akin to the font size of the intro paragraph "About the Book" on the main page.
  19. When you are taken to the specific chapter page, such as Chapter 1 From Spanish Colony to Cuban Republic, the paragraph should be surrounded by, or be in close proximity to, the four or five medium-sized images associated with that chapter (identified by their jpg names). Then each of these images should be "clickable" to a larger version like in the photo gallery.
  20. I'd like that big, bright amazon button up near the top of the main page

  5. Remove the bold words from the main page bullet points (i.e. Shanghai Theatre)
  6. Include a link to my MySpace page
